The Value of the Mass

The Value of the Mass
Up to our own times, it has been the constant concern of supreme pontiffs to ensure that the Church of Christ offers a worthy ritual to the Divine Majesty, 'to the praise and glory of His name,' and 'to the benefit of all His Holy Church - Pope Benedict XVI, Summorum Pontificum

The Seminarian Retreat

Well, I said I'd comment on the yearly seminarian retreat and so here I go!!!

Overall, the retreat went very well. The retreat was far from silent and I suppose technically It was not a retreat but a fun gathering of all the seminarians. One of the best things we did there was dubbed "Ora et Labora" day. We spent the whole day cleaning St. Theresa's retreat center (which was badly needed) and revolved the day around the Breviary. It was a lot of fun and because it was focused on prayer, it was extremely contemplative in nature. Plus I got to use a power washer! (As a side note, if you ever need to clean anything, always get a power washer!)

The second day (which was the last full day) we got to go trap shooting with the retired bishop of Columbus. What fun! I am a very big gun enthusiast and found a lot of common ground with our retired bishop. What a great guy! This day also revolved around prayer and the day was just a fruitful as the day before.

Overall, the retreat went very well and I got to take care of some discernment issues as well so the week all ended on a very high note.

zach,

although i'm hardly one for formalities, i apologize that this comment has nothing to do with the post its attached to...

i was going to append another statement to the list of things you're already taken into consideration: namely, why did you put the disclaimer on your "about me" that your comments "do not necessarily reflect the opinions of...the Roman Catholic Church?" First off, does the Church hold "opinions," or promulgate "practices" and "doctrines?" Second, as a Roman Catholic seminarian (I presume?), shouldn't your comments on the issues being debated fall totally in line with the teachings of the Holy Church?

i look forward, again, to reading your responses. i see that alexander has already taken me to task on his site, but i'm not personally interested in his opinion. you are a seminarian, i wrote here initially to hear your side, i trust your input more than his -- you seem to be more temperate, also, which makes for much more pleasant reading. thanks!

In short, the answer to your question is that the Church is infallable and I am not. I can easily make mistakes in my opinions on this blog. Your right, however, that the Church does not issue opinions. I guess I just worded the disclaimer incorrectly. On the other hand, my opinions may differ with the opinions of individuial priests and bishops, so in that manner the Church does express opinions.

So, in a sentence, I can say that the disclaimer is there because I can easily make mistakes.

Now that I've seen the comments I think I ought to maybe keep my mouth shut... but when I saw that you said the day revolved around the Breviary (great stuff!), I idly wondered if you meant the older one because it was ermm... harder.
