The Value of the Mass

The Value of the Mass
Up to our own times, it has been the constant concern of supreme pontiffs to ensure that the Church of Christ offers a worthy ritual to the Divine Majesty, 'to the praise and glory of His name,' and 'to the benefit of all His Holy Church - Pope Benedict XVI, Summorum Pontificum

Calling all Converts!

I have recently entered a debate with my former pastor. The former denomination I used to belong to was the Church of Christ, "non-denominational", no musical instruments, that kind of Church of Christ. So, if there are any converts out there that think they could help me with this, please comment on this post. This debate is going to be via email, and I'm still waiting on him to send me the first email so to begin the debate. I will post the emails here in the future.

Well, the problem is that he never has emailed me back. I think I scared him the first time we sat down to talk. He couldn't answer any of my questions then, so I'm not sure if he'll ever email me.

If he eventually never responds then I don't know what should be done. Maybe you would like to contact him and try to rekindle the debate. But sometimes that can be annoying.

I have actually done both. In a debate if the other person stops responding then so do I. But sometimes I bring up the topic again.

I don't know why I do it. Sometimes it seems that praying does more good. But if you can debate in a calm matter, with patience and charity - answering all objections etc. it can bear fruit.

In some conversion stories I have read the people contribute their conversions to reading apologetic works or talking to a well knowledge Catholics about the faith. Well, they attribute apologetics as one factor. In some cases it certainly does help.

Well, if I didn't have so much work to do right now I would. However, being the end of the year, I have a lot of papers to do and don't really have the time for a long drawn out debate.

Zach, I just discovered your blog and I'm thrilled to be able to read your thoughts. I've been a convert for just under 10 years... but I'm a sloooow learner. I feel compelled to read everything ever written and am totally in love with the Church. I just moved back to the Columbus area and we chose Holy Family as our parish. I attend both traditional and new masses... prefer traditional but I'm an old lady and sometimes am unable to choose which mass I can manage to attend.
While waiting to hear from your former pastor - pray, pray, pray for him and then when the Holy Spirit inspires you to contact him again, he will be ready for that contact. It's God's work, He's just using you and prayer is the power that will facilitate the work on both sides of the communication. I believe that everyone we come in cantact with, we have responsibility for... first in prayer and then we wait for direction. As St. Theresa of Calcutta used to pray... "please God, don't let ME ruin YOUR work."

God bless you. I'm so glad you are in the Catholic Church, you answered God's call, you have been led to Holy Family. Maybe we'll see you on a tour of the Museum this summer. (Also glad to hear good changes are coming at the Josephinum.)
